There are several types of hand mixers available and not to be confused with table beaters. With tabletop mixers, the mixer or beater blades are mounted on a stand and drop directly into a bowl. These heavy kitchen utensils do not require hands to be held and some of them are designed for very significant tasks like kneading bread dough or kneading certain types of hard cookie dough. Most hand mixers don’t have the same kind of power, but they’re fabulous for many everyday cooking and baking applications. They can also be stored in a drawer when not in use, while larger tabletop mixers take up much more space and can be impractical when counter space or storage options are limited.

People can observe some types of hand mixers to choose from. A very old-fashioned type is the egg beater. It is not electrically powered and requires turning the lever to make two beaters spin and beat eggs or other ingredients. In environments where electrical power is not available, egg beaters still have their place. It’s not a bad idea to have one handy, where it can come in handy in case of a sudden power outage, for camping trips or vacations in rustic places.

The two most common types of hand mixers that rely on electric power are simply called mixers and mixers. Most mixers have two rotating blades and various speed settings. The blades are removable and tend to be dishwasher safe. In contrast, the magic wand is usually a single rotating device, which can, however, be useful in various circumstances. It can also double as a blender in some cases and make things like smoothies or pureed soups.
Of the two types of hand mixers, the two-blade stand mixer is the more common and tends to be more useful. Hand mixers can easily mix cake batter, make meringue, whipped cream or create frosting. Blade types can vary in shape and material. Some are made of tough plastic and may not be as helpful when mixing very hot or boiling ingredients. Metal blades are more common and can have a traditional wire whip shape, similar to a whisk, or they can have several interlocking sections that provide plenty of room for aeration.
The single blade hand mixer may not have as many applications as the various types of hand mixers. Some come with sharp blade attachments that can be used to chop nuts and can easily whip cream or egg whites. However, they tend not to do such a good job mixing large cake mixes, but they are usually small and easy to store.
A recent addition to the types of hand mixers, which can be very convenient, is the cordless hand mixer. Depending on the design, mixer cables can be an absolute nuisance. Most cordless types have a single blade, but may come with a set of different blades. They may not be as powerful and need to be stored in a base so they are fully charged and ready to use. However, many find them to be a significant improvement over older styles because they don’t have that annoying cable.
